Papier Mache Papier
Mache is the most characteristic Kashmiri craft. Its basic article is
made in a mould, then painted and polished in successive layers until
the final intricate design is produced. Designs in the shape of flowers
and birds, and the heart shaped Kashmir chinar leaf add life to the
objects. The usage of bright and ethnic colors like peacock blue, dark
green, brown, etc. adds more appeal to the product. Precious gold and
silver are used on the larger articles and figures & objects like
the kashmiri houseboat are also depicted. Items of papier mache include
bowls, cups, containers, jewelry boxes. Letter holders, tables, lamps,
